We must work together to develop the Silk Road connection, Vladislav Krykliy – December 5, 2019
Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladislav Krykliy discussed with the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Mikael Jabbarov the issue of cooperation between the countries within the framework of the Silk Road. The meeting was held on December 5, 2019 in Baku.
In terms of trade with Ukraine in 2018, Azerbaijan ranks 28th among all countries in the world. This indicator should be improved, in particular by deepening cooperation in the field of transport and infrastructure projects. Vladislav Krykliy stressed that Azerbaijan’s support for Ukraine’s aspirations to unlock its potential in the Silk Road transport corridor is extremely important: “We must work together to develop the Silk Road connection. Azerbaijan plays a key role in this process and we look forward to mutually beneficial cooperation between our countries, ”said the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine.
The Ministers of both countries discussed the exchange of experience in the field of digital technologies in transport and the participation of companies from the Republic of Azerbaijan in the implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects planned by the Government of Ukraine for 2020 and beyond.
Vladislav Krykliy said that about 4,000 km of roads should be restored in 2020, which the Government has set a record funding in the state budget of about 66 billion hryvnias, and in 5 years it is planned to restore 24,000 km of roads. Construction of the Zaporizhzhya Bridge, the airport in the city of Dnipro begins, projects of new bridges in the cities of Mykolayiv and Kremenchuk are being prepared.
The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine stated that the liberalization of aviation between the countries should take place, aviation in Ukraine demonstrates stable dynamics of growth, therefore, the abolition of restrictions on aviation between Ukraine and Azerbaijan will facilitate the growth of passenger traffic in both directions.
Vladislav Krykliy focused on railway transport reform, Ukrzaliznytsia is preparing for an IPO, a pilot project for admission of private traction to railway work is underway, and legislation on railway transportation is expected to be updated.
The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine heads the Ukrainian side in the Joint Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Azerbaijani Commission on Economic Cooperation and will endeavor to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation between the countries.
