Valencia Port Seeks To Strengthen Position On Chinese market

Valencia, Spain (PortSEurope) June 14, 2018 –  Valencia port continues to strengthen its presence in the Chinese market and its participation in the New Silk Road project promoted by China’s government.

Mar Chao, commercial director of the port, participates this week in the Forum of International Cooperation of Ports of the Maritime Silk Road that is taking place in the Chinese city of Ningbo and aims to promote synergies between the participants of the project.

The meeting brings together the members of the port logistics sector who have joined the “Belt and Road” initiative and the “Belt and Road for International Cooperation” forum. Among them, port authorities from countries such as Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Singapore, Canada, the United States or Slovenia, among others, as well as several shipping companies stand out, among including COSCO, Maersk, MSC and CMA CGM.

Mar Chao, who participated as moderator of one of the round tables of the forum on port development, highlighted the strategic importance of Valencia port for the Chinese market. The commercial director recalled that Valencia port has increased its commercial relations with China in the last two years.

The roundtable, moderated by Mar Chao, delved into areas such as the development of European and Italian ports, the Greenport project developed in the Wilhelmshaven port area, the port planning of the port of Singapore, the development model of the port of Antwerp, as well as the role of the port of Gdansk (Poland) in the New Silk Road.
