Valenciaport channeled 4,607,941 TEU at the end of October, which represents an increase of 7.34% over the same period of the previous year. Full containers grew at a rate of 5.38%, highlighting the good record of exports, advancing 6.37%; imports, which increased by 7% and traffic recording an increase of 4.48%. On the other hand, empty containers saw an increase of 13.79%.
Regarding the monthly data, in October, the ports managed by Autoridad Portuaria de Valencia (APV – Valenciaport, Port Authority of Valencia) have handled 471,795 TEU, 0.09% less than the same month of 2018. Despite this decrease, the figure manipulated in October is above the monthly average of this year (460,794 TEU), becoming the fourth best month of the year. It should be noted that this slight decline is mainly based on the behavior of full container traffic (-11.99%), while the import-export maintains the vigor that has characterized the year with growth of 8.37% in the exports and 1.67% in imports.
As for the total traffic, in the accumulated between January and October, Valenciaport has channeled a total of 68,295,300 tons, which represents an increase of 7.37% more than during the same period of 2018. Foreign trade of general merchandise increased 3.56% with a total of 21,312,784 tons. Specifically, exports grew 4.34% to 12.82 million tons due to good records from countries such as Italy (+0.63%), the United States (+15.83%) and Saudi Arabia (+1.06%). Imports, meanwhile, advanced 2.41% to 8.49 million tons. The main countries from which imports are received through Valenciaport are China (+8.06%), Italy (-2.87%) Turkey (+16.61%), France (-1.97%) and States United (+1.19%). Mass transit rose 6.08% to 30.96 million tons.
Data by merchandise
The general non-containerized merchandise has closed the tenth month of the year with a total traffic of 12,403,182 tons, which represents an increase of 4.86%. This section highlights merchandise traffic such as steel products that, with 1.99 million tons, down 6.64%; and cars and automotive parts that, with 1.45 million tons, decrease 3.19%. By units, the ports of Valencia and Sagunto have handled 609,311 cars, 10.90% less than during the same period of the previous year. On the contrary, Ro-Ro traffic consolidates its upward trend and increases 8.51% to 10.82 million tons.
With regard to general merchandise in containers , in the accumulated between January and October, Valenciaport has channeled 51,287,799 tons, 7.08% more than during the same period of 2018. For merchandise, the elaborated construction materials stand out, with 4.61 million tons and an increase of 3.76%; chemical products, with 1.77 million tons and an increase of 3.51%; and machinery, tools and spare parts, with 1.3 million tons and a growth of 17.51%.
Liquid bulk, meanwhile, consolidated their positive numbers with a total of 2,524,870 tons of traffic and an increase of 53.50% at the end of October. This evolution has contributed to the evolution of natural gas traffic which, with 1.21 million tons, advances 676.43%. Also noteworthy are the movements of chemical products, with 305,000 tons and an increase of 5.58%; and diesel, with 275,867 and an increase of 3.02%.
Bulk solids are the only item that remains in negative figures. In total, 1,814,320 tonnes have been channeled to the month of October, 11.77% less than the previous year. By merchandise, cereals and their flours stand out, with a movement of 878,000 tons (-20.51%); and natural and artificial fertilizers, with a movement of 474,000 tons (+ 13.94%).
Based on the data of the APV statistical bulletin for the month of October, the ports of Valencia and Gandia have received a total of 957,752 passengers, a figure that represents a growth of 4.84%. Specifically, 579,387 people made use of regular-line ferries (+4.08%), while 378,365 people arrived in Valencia aboard one of the 178 tourist cruise stops received. This figure represents a 6.01% increase in cruise ship traffic.
Traffic by countries and geographical areas
The five countries with the highest volume of merchandise have channeled through Valenciaport in the accumulated between January and October have been: Spain, with 8.61 million tons (+3.28%); United States, with 6.69 million tons (+23.69%); Italy, with 5.42 million tons (+4.10%); China, with 5.4 million tons (+0.87%); and Turkey, with 4.83 million tons (+40.69%). By geographical areas, the Mediterranean and Black Sea area stand out, with 19.36 million tons (+7.85%); and that of the Far East, with 8.14 million tons (+1.38%).
