Valencia, Spain (PortSEurope) June 19, 2018 – Autoridad Portuaria de Valencia (APV – Valenciaport, Port Authority of Valencia) handled 2,065,808 TEU in the accumulated year until the month of May, which represents a growth of 5.06% over the same period of the previous year.
Full containers have advanced by 3.16% due to the good performance of imports, which grew by 11.51% and transit, which increased by 3.13%. Exports of full containers fell by 2.69% while traffic of empty containers increased by 12.42%.
In May 2018, the three ports managed by APV (Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia) moved 460,521 TEU, 26,381 more containers than during the same month of 2017, an increase of 6.08%. Of them, the full containers, with 362.696 TEU, increased 7.93%, while the gaps decrease by 0.29%, with a total of 97.825 TEU .
Valenciaport ended May with 30,942,458 tons handled, 2.03% more than during the same period of 2017, due to the good performance of general merchandise, both in container and non-containerized, and solid bulk.
In terms of foreign trade, exports were 9.22 million tons (+2.44%) and imports 7.35 million tons (+4.24%). The transit increased 0.67%.
In January-May 2018, general non-containerized merchandise has increased by 16%. In total, almost 756,000 tonnes have been handled more than in the same period of 2017 to reach 5,479,741 tonnes. In the case of general merchandise in containers, with 23,497,847 tons, it amounts to 0.60%. The car traffic, meanwhile, continues the path of growth with a rise of 11.63%.
During the first five months, the ports of Valencia and Sagunto handled 375,883 units.
In the area of bulk, solids advanced 23.18% to 1,044,858 tons, while liquids decreased by 34.23% to 920,012 tons.
Until May, Valenciaport has received a total of 345,651 passengers at its facilities in the ports of Valencia and Gandia, 9.85% more than in 2017. In particular, regular line traffic grows 8.04%, with 216,595 passengers, while cruise traffic advances 13.04% with 129,056 cruise passengers.
