Vigo, Spain (PortSEurope) November 23, 2018 – Vigo port will supply electricity to ro-ro ships through liquefied natural gas (LNG) to reduce the emissions of the vessels during their stay in the port.
This is an initiative in which the port of Vigo has been working for four years with several companies and institutions and which has been presented today.
The main objectives of the project are reducing air emissions during the stay of the ship in the port and ensuring more sustainable traffic, due to the lower cost of natural gas.
The electricity will be supplied to ships through a LNG-powered generator. The initiative will involve the reduction of emissions of up to 85% in the levels of nitrogen oxides, as well as the complete elimination of particles and sulfur oxides.
