Taranto, Italy (PortSEurope) January 16, 2020 – YILPORT Holding has selected Konecranes to refurbish 23 cranes as part of its investment plan to develop its local facilities into a Mediterranean shipping hub.
In July 2019, YILPORT Holding signed a concession agreement with Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mar Ionio (AdSP – Ionian Sea Port Authority), the managing institution of the Port of Taranto in Italy for the multipurpose terminal.
Robert Yildirim, owner of YILPORT Holding, commented: “We have strong ambitions in the Mediterranean. The opportunities presented by Taranto port require tremendous focus and we are pleased to have Konecranes on board. We look forward to having the port back in full operation by the end of 2020, with more exciting reinvestment plans to follow.”
Konecranes will begin the project in January 2020, with several of the RMG cranes planned for recommission in the first half of 2020, and the remaining RMGs by the end of 2020.
YILPORT Holding is an international port operator with European commercial interests in Norway, Sweden, Turkey, Portugal and Spain. South European terminals include Gebze, Solventas, Gemport, Rotaport (all Turkey), Liscont, Figueira da For, Sotagas, Leixoes, Aveiro, Setubal, Tersado (all Portugal), Ferrol, and Huelva (both Spain). Last year, Taranto was added to the portfolio.
