Red Sea

The Red Sea, a seawater inlet of the Indian Ocean, lies between Africa and Asia. The sea extends roughly 1,400 miles from the north to the south, with a maximum width of about 220 miles, and it is bordered by several countries. To the west, it is flanked by Egypt, Sudan, and Eritrea in northeastern Africa. The Suez Canal, at the northern end in Egypt, provides a vital connection to the Mediterranean Sea. On the eastern side, in the Arabian Peninsula, lie Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The Red Sea’s strategic importance is enhanced by its role as a waterway to the Suez Canal, facilitating significant maritime trade between Asia and Europe.
