Tajikistan

Tajikistan is a landlocked country in Central Asia, bordered by Afghanistan, China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. It has a population of over 9 million people, with Tajik as the official language. Agriculture is the mainstay of the economy, with cotton, fruits, and vegetables as the major crops. Tajikistan became a member of the WTO in March 2013. However, its economy continues to face major challenges, including dependence on remittances from Tajikistani migrant labourers working in Russia and Kazakhstan, pervasive corruption, and the opiate trade and other destabilizing violence emanating from neighbouring Afghanistan.
