Beirut
Beirut is a seaport on the Eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea and Capital city of Lebanon. Since the 1980s, Lebanon has been experiencing armed conflict involving armed and proxy forces of local factions and neighbouring countries. On August 4, 2020, a large amount of ammonium nitrate stored at the port detonated. It caused at least 218 deaths, 7,000 injuries, and $15 billion in property damage, and leaving an estimated 300,000 people homeless.
At the same time, CMA CGM signed a contact to manage Beirut container terminal which includes an ambitious investment plan. However, the port and country remain in a state of instability.
