Gijón

The Port of Gijón is located in the central area of Spain’s north coast, Asturias, and is made up of an expert port community which provides services to the industrial and business sector in its hinterland. It is Spain’s leading port for dry bulk traffic and ranks number one in terms of the amount of goods transported by rail, making it one of Atlantic Europe’s main ports. Four weekly container services connect the Port of Gijón to the main hub ports of Atlantic Europe, namely Rotterdam, Antwerp, Le Havre and Sines. The port is operated by Autoridad Portuaria de Gijón (APG – Port Authority of Gijón). State ports are managed by Puertos del Estado which executes port policy of the government; made up of 28 port authorities that manage the 46 ports.
