Málaga, Spain (PortSEurope) February 12, 2018 – The mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, said that the future hotel planned in the port “will contribute more to the city than it can subtract”. Therefore, in his opinion, the project “is interesting” for Málaga.
This was stated by De la Torre after learning that the evaluation report on the impact of the hotel-skyscraper on the Levante dock prepared by consultancy Icomos recommends renouncing this project, due to its “irreversible impact”. “Sincerely, I see more advantages than disadvantages,” he stated.
Regarding the environmental impact, he said that from the place where the hotel is planned, “you can see the facade of La Malagueta and that is a more powerful horizontal impact” than the future port hotel.
The hotel “will capture quality tourism and, undoubtedly, also complements the cruise sector,” De la Torre said.
