Naples, Italy (PortSEurope) July 28, 2019 – In the first half of 2019 Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Centro-Settentrionale (AdSP – Centre-North Tyrrhenian Sea Port Authority) recorded, overall, traffic growth compared to the first half of 2018, both in the passenger and in the goods segment.
AdSP del Mar Tirreno Centro-Settentrionale manages the ports of Naples, Salerno and Castellammare di Stabia.
Passenger traffic grew by 3.5% in the first half of 2019, while the cruise sector recorded an increase of 20.3%. In the passenger segment, the positive dynamics of Salerno (+16.8%) and Castellammare (+7.9%) were noted, while Naples recorded an increase of 22.2% in cruise traffic.
Freight traffic, expressed in tons, grew, compared to the first half of 2018, of 1.8%, with a positive peak in the various goods in packages (+2.5%) and a negative point in the liquid bulk (-1.7%).
Container traffic, expressed in TEU, increased by 9.2%, with a strongly differentiated dynamic between the port of Naples, which recorded an increase of 26.7%, and the port of Salerno which saw a decrease of 10.8%.
The carrying out of dredging also in Salerno will likely redress this imbalance.
In the traffic of commercial vehicles, concentrated in the port of Salerno, there was a large reduction of the handled units (-30.6%), due to the cyclical negative dynamics of the auto sector.
Ro-Ro traffic shows a positive overall dimension (+1.6%), with significant growth in the port of Salerno (+6%), balanced by a setback in this segment of the port of Naples (-2.2%) .
“In a trend line that is still growing overall”, said the AdSP Chairman Pietro Spirito, “on one side there are traffic segments in economic crisis and on the other interventions of infrastructural strengthening necessary to ensure a future of development.”
