Algerian port’s cargo traffic rises 7% y/y in Q1

Algiers, Algeria (PortSEurope) May 21, 2019 – Algeria’s port activity registered growth of around 7% in the first quarter of 2019. The cargo traffic of the 10 Algerian ports during the first three months of the year totaled 30.6 million tonnes, against 28.60 million tonnes in the like period of 2018. The exports reached 19.9 million tonnes, an increase of almost 14%, including 2.4 million tonnes of non-hydrocarbon goods,
mainly of construction materials and agricultural products. Container traffic, both for import and export, amounted to 523,186 TEUs in the first quarter of 2019, compared to 463,394 TEUs in the first three months of 2018, an increase of 13%. The traffic was handled mainly at the ports of Algiers (42%), Oran (16%), Bejaia (11%), Skikda (9%) and Annaba (8%).
