Koper, Slovenia (PortSEurope) May 16, 2019 – The European Investment Bank (EIB) has approved a €250 million ($280 million) loan for the construction of a second track of the railway line linking the Divača frieght hub to Koper port.
The loan will be extended to Slovenian state-owned firm 2TDK, responsible for the project’s execution, and will be backed by a guarantee from the Slovenian government. The financing will bear an interest rate of up to 1% and will have a repayment period of 35 years.
“Excellent news for Slovenia. The EIB today approved a loan of €250 million to build a second track between Divača and Koper. With the €109 million ($122 million) grant that the European Commission has provided, the project can start. The second track is key for Slovenia, and the single European market,” said European Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc.
The total investment is estimated at about €1.2 billion ($1.3 billion) and construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
