FSRU can only stay in Piombino port for three years

Piombino, Italy (PortSEurope) June 5, 2023 – Italian energy company Snam has said that at its Golar Tunda floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) in Piombino port is scheduled to start commercial operations as early as mid-June. However, the ship’s stay in the port is limited to three years. Thus, its future is being determined.

Speaking on the issue, Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, said that two locations were under consideration. First is the Adriatic port of Ravenna, and second, less specifically in the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea.

The port of Ravenna is currently preparing for another FSRU which is scheduled to some online in August 2024. The FSRU will also be from Snam, the BW Singapore, with a capacity of 5 billion cm³ of gas. Snam will invest around €1 billion in the Ravenna operation.
