Trieste, Italy (Ports Europe) December 19, 2023 – HHLA PLT Italy has acquired Logistica Giuliana srl from ICOP Spa. Logistica Giuliana’s share capital has been doubled to 48 million euros. ICOP Spa acquired Logistica Giuliana in 2021.

HHLA is set to be controlled by Geneva-based shipper MSC – Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. is one of the world’s leading container shipping lines. This means that MSC would control both the HHLA Plattforma container terminal (Molo VIII) and Trieste Marine Terminal srl (TMT), located on Molo VII. There is concern that MSC might not support the future of both terminals.

MSC now holds 52.3% of HHLA

The purchase of Logistica Giuliana, adjacent to the PLT terminal, will lead to the development of the old steelworks area (Ferriera di Servola) “into a modern and sustainable port and logistics area”, said Philip Sweens, CEO of HHLA International. The newly-increased capital suggests a future for Molo VIII.

“HHLA’s strategy as a European logistics company is confirmed, as is its business model, which includes neutrality and independence and therefore – it is further specified – the commitment to fair treatment of all customers”, he added.
