
Huelva port open new €6.9 million fish market
Huelva, Spain (PortSEurope) February 18, 2019 – Autoridad Portuaria de Huelva (APH – Port Authority of Huelva) has inaugurated the facilities of the New Fish Market in the Levante Norte dock, an investment of €6.9 million ($7.8 million). The regional government of Andalucía contributed towards the funding and the facility will be managed by Pescados y Mariscos Hermanos Felipe, S.L. The new market will help
the port to compete globally, lead to some local economic revitalisation and enhance the port-city relationship. The project is the work of architect José Álvarez Checa and was built by Construcciones Sánchez Domínguez Sando SA. The building has an area of 6,473 m², of which the ground floor has 3,800 m², with a surface for unloading and handling, in addition to housing cold rooms, warehouse, auction, toilets, wholesale market, offices, bar and changing rooms. The upper floor has 2,600 m², for leisure and restoration, as well as exhibition spaces. The plot where the new fish market is located has a total area of 10,115 m².
