
Malta Freeport’s €20 million investment in two megamax quay cranes

Valletta, Malta (PortSEurope) February 9, 2021 – Malta Freeports has announced the arrival of components of the two megamax quay cranes, ordered Liebherr Container Cranes. The cranes cost €20 million and will be installed by the summer. The cranes can operate on 23,000 TEU vessels, with an outreach of 72m and an air draft of 54m, and twin-lift spreader capability. Malta Freeport is an international
port on the island of Malta with a trade volume of 3.06 million TEUs in 2015. It lies in Birżebbuġa in the southeastern part of Malta. Following the privatisation of Malta Freeport Terminals in 2004, the Freeport now has a strong shareholding structure composed of Terminal Link, the leading container terminal operator; Yildirim Group, one of the leading global diversified industrial groups in Turkey; as well as the strong presence of CMA CGM, the world’s third-largest shipping line; and China Merchants Port Holdings Company Limited, the largest terminal operator in China.
