The operator of the port said it had selected local construction company GP KRK to build the road for 32.2 million kuna (€4.3 million), including VAT. Under the terms, GP KRK will have 300 days from the contract signing date to finish the construction works. Denis Vukorepa, director of the Rijeka Port Authority, also expressed his satisfaction with the project, pointing out that both the connecting road and the D403 road must be completed before the new Container Terminal can start operating. He also commented on the importance of building a new Prague coast, thanks to which the port of Rijeka will get a completely new operational space. “The construction of this road will open access to Metropolis warehouses, while the city of Rijeka will get a ring of high-quality roads around the entire city area by completing this and building other roads”, said Rijeka Mayor Vojko Obersnel. “Let us remind you that the construction of a connecting road 1,250 meters long is a project of the Port of Rijeka Authority, which is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure. Thanks to this project, Žabica Square and Riva Street will relieve part of the freight traffic that currently enters / exits the Rijeka port complex through the city center. Namely, after the completion of the works, the connecting road will be connected with the state road D403, which connects the area of the Container Terminal Zagrebačka obala with the Rijeka bypass. The newly built road will function as an internal road in the port area of the Rijeka Basin, and will help relieve truck traffic”, he added.
