
Ports of Genoa sees August +13.6% increase in cargo traffic

Genoa, Italy (PortSEurope) October 1, 2021 – In August 2021, the Ports of Genoa recorded total cargo traffic of 5.36 million tonnes, up +13.6% on August 2020 and +4.8% on the same month of 2019. The cumulative result for the year is up +12.5%. Conventional traffic was 1.24 million tonnes (respectively +13.6% and +8.3% compared to August 2020 and 2019). Oil product traffic was stable
compared to the same period last year (+13.6% and the same period of the previous year (+0.5%), but are down compared to 2019 (-21.4%). Solid bulk performed very well (+91% and +99% compared to the same month of 2020 and 2019), as did chemicals (+13.1% and +46%). Vegetable oils and wine showed a positive performance compared to August 2020 (+231.7%), but far from the volumes of 2019 (-19.7%). Finally, the cruise and ferry sector records 700,281 passengers, showing a growth in percentage terms compared to the same month last year of 47% (-23% compared to August 2019) indicating a gradual recovery of the sector.
