Portugal’s AutoEuropa To Remove 2,000 Cars From Setúbal Port

Setúbal, Portugal (PortSEurope) November 22, 2018 – Portuguese automotive assembly plant operator AutoEuropa Automóveis, Lda., part of Volkswagen AG, is preparing to take thousands of cars parked in Setúbal port.

The Paglia ship will arrive in the port on November 22 to remove 2,000 cars from Setúbal port and will call at Santander port on November 23.

The operation will involve 50 workers, who are not employees of Setúbal port. This caused the anger of Portuguese stevedores trade union who classified the ship as a “ghost” in a publication made on November 22 in their blog.

The strike of dockworkers at two of the terminals in the port of Setúbal since November 5 has led to the cancellation of the calls of containerised cargo ships since last week and threatened to limit the operations of AutoEuropa, which even admitted the possibility of stopping production.
