Setúbal port strike reduces national November exports

Lisbon, Portugal (PortSEurope) January 10, 2019 – Portugal’s Instituto Nacional de Estatística (INE – National Statistical Institute) has confirmed that the strike by dockworkers at Setúbal port contributed to the reduction of national exports, mainly passenger cars, in November 2018, compared to the same month of 2017.

“In November 2018, exports decreased by 8.7% (+5.3% in October 2018), due to the decrease in intra-EU trade and extra-EU trade, the decrease in exports of transport materials, mainly cars for passenger transport, stood at 29.4% (contribution of -5.7 percentage points to the annual rate of change in total exports of goods), which will be associated with the strike of dockers in the port of Setúbal, “, said INE.
