Nantes St-Nazaire, France (PortSEurope) November 27, 2018 – French shipbuilder STX France has completed a project for the expansion of the area dedicated to pre-assembly of ship sections at its Chantiers de l’Atlantique plant in Saint-Nazaire.
The area was expanded by 30% as 17,000 m² were added to the unit. The project also involved the extension of 135 metres of the tracks on which a crane with a capacity of 1,400 tonnes will be used to move the blocks of ships.
“The investment, worth €16 million ($18.1 million) allows us to increase capacity by simultaneously building 22 blocks compared to the previous 16 and thus satisfying the current and the future workload of the yard,” Chantiers de l’Atlantique’s general manager Laurent Castaing said.
