
Ukraine deputy minister holds port discussions in Qatar

Doha, Qatar (PortSEurope) March 1, 2021 – On 27 February 2021, Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine (CDTO) Dmytro Senik started a working visit to the Qatar, which included a visit to Hamad Port, the country’s largest port facility. The minister held a meeting with the management of Hamad port, as well as negotiations with the management of Qatari companies Milaha and QTerminals. The parties discussed
the implementation of the Agreement between Ukraine and the Qatari company QTerminals for the concession of the Ukrainian seaport of Olvia (Mykolayiv). Dmytro Senik invited Qatari partners to visit Ukraine to discuss prospects for expanding bilateral investment cooperation in the area of infrastructure. In January this year, QTerminals won the concession in Olbia. UAH 3.4 billion (€125.6 million) will be invested in port development over five years. It is one of the largest foreign direct investments in the Ukrainian port industry since independence. The amount of annual concession fees is UAH 82 million, which is 16 times higher than the profit of the port for 2019. The concessionaire will invest UAH 80 million in the development of the infrastructure of the city of Mykolayiv, which will contribute to the sustainable development of the local community and the territory of presence of the enterprise.
