Gelendzhik, Russia (Ports Europe) April 30, 2024 – They built him a 1.5 billion euro palace. Now, they are building a 1.03 billion euro marina nearby so they can sail there in their megayachts and superyachts (sanctioned elsewhere) and pay respect to Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, while he rages a war in Ukraine.

Construction of the second stage of the 103 billion rubles (1.03 billion euros) Gelendzhik Marina resort in the Tonkiy Mys (Thin Cape) on the Black Sea, Russia, will start in the summer of 2024. The project is to be completed by 2027, Gelendzhik administration head Alexey Bogodistov said.

€1.5 bln marina replaces old cargo port near €1.5 bln “Putin’s Palace”

Why spend over a billion euros on a yacht marina project and sacrifice a cargo port? Because it’s only 25 km southeast of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Palace, which is worth an estimated 1.5 billion euros. There has been no real reaction from the Russian population to either project.

The palace is luxurious and heavily guarded, and many of these oligarchs close to Putin claim ownership of it. The region is a no-fly zone and is guarded by the FSB (KGB successor). The sea near the palace is closed to marine traffic.

The former cargo port of Gelendzhik

“In the next three years, the land of the former cargo port of Gelendzhik will undergo large-scale changes,” Bogodistov said.

The harbour will become part of the multifunctional recreational complex Gelendzhik Marina. The floating berths and four piers will accommodate 278 yachts of various sizes, including separate spaces for megayachts and superyachts. Separate berths will be equipped for small yachts up to 25 m in length, and seasonal or temporary docking for other vessels will also be available.

As part of the project’s first stage, the construction of a yacht marina for 275 yachts was completed in 2023. The maritime complex includes a pier for passenger ships with a draft of up to 5.9 m and a capacity of up to 940 people.

Gelendzhic (Gelenjik, Gelendzik) is on the Gelendzhic Bay on the Black Sea, some 40 km south of the port of Novorossiysk. Russia relocated its Black Sea fleet to Novorossiysk, trying to escape from Ukrainian drone and missile attacks on occupied Crimea.
