Castellón, Spain (PortSEurope) May 15, 2018 – Castellón port has been authorised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment to develop ro-ro traffic vehicles carrying live animal.
Only Castellón and Algeciras ports, of the ten that requested it, have obtained the authorisation after overcoming the pertinent inspection visits made to their facilities. In this way, the port of Castellón becomes, together with that of Algeciras, the only ones in Spain through which vehicles can be transported by road of live animals and feed.
The government has considered that the port of Castellón has cleaning and disinfection facilities that comply with current regulations. This is a key factor given that road transport vehicles are an important link in the livestock sector, and the movement of animals poses a risk in the dissemination of infectious diseases.
In addition, Spanish ports are used as a transit point for vehicles to and from third countries. Therefore, proper cleaning and disinfection process is essential and the port of Castellón offers these guarantees.
