Genoa, Italy (PortSEurope) April 15, 2018 – An agreement has been signed between Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mar Ligure Occidentale (AdSP – Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority) and Invitalia (the Ministry of Economy’s agency for inward investment and economic development) by which Invitalia will act as the Central Commission to accelerate the design of the new breakwater of the Port of Genoa and of the works to complete the Ronco Canepa Bridge Terminal.
Paolo Emilio Signorini, president of the AdSP, and Domenico Arcuri, managing director of Invitalia, signed the agreement that establishes the investiture of Invitalia as Central Commission for the procedures of assignment of the new Dam Foranea of Genoa and the Ronco Canepa Bridge Terminal.
It starts from the entrusting of the design of the new breakwater (estimated cost of the work around €1 billion/$1.23 billion), which will allow access to the port also to larger vessels, ensuring the safety of navigation and the protection of internal basins of the port of Genoa.
Invitalia will then take care of the works for the completion of the Ponte Ronco-Canepa container terminal, which are essential for operating the quay (estimated cost €16 million/$19.76 million).
The AdSP will maintain the RUP (Responsabile Unico del Procedimento – Single Responsible for the Procedure) for the technical and administrative approval phases of the projects, while Invitalia will take care of the tender phases for design services, project verification and technical-economic support activities.
As a result of the feasibility design, it will be possible to proceed to the definition of the main features of the new Diga Foranea di Genova, which will have to allow entry and transit in the Sampierdarena basin of increasingly large vessels. The realization of the work will probably occur for functional phases.
Chairman Signorini commented, “The signing of multi-year state deeds with all the main players, the completion of the filling works of the main container terminals, the imminent signing of the Convention with Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) for the railway connection of the terminals, are fundamental steps to change the face of Sampierdarena, a major port and industrial area of Genoa, the new Diga Foranea di Genova is the most necessary and ambitious work of this transformation. The last week we had fundamental first indications from the simulations in Copenhagen, with Invitalia today we put a solid foundation administrative technical path that will lead us to the realization of the work “.
Invitalia CEO Domenico Arcuri declared, “Invitalia has been committed for many years, and with good results, in projects to enhance the territories and strategic areas for the development of the country. In Liguria, after the intervention already started together with the President of the Region – Government Commissioner – for the Bisagno torrent tunneling tunnel, an important work to reduce the risks deriving from hydrogeological instability, Invitalia is again involved, again as Client, to fine-tune the feasibility project and the tenders for the new dam and the Port of Genoa terminal. Our goal is to speed up the times for the tender procedures as much as possible and for the activities related to the planning of such important interventions for the defense of the communities and the development of the territory”.
