
2M alliance strengthens Mediterranean services

Algeciras, Spain (PortSEurope) March 20, 2018 – The 2M alliance has announced the strengthening of its services in connections from Asia to Europe and the Mediterranean. The alliance led by MSC and Maersk, which also includes Hamburg Süd following its acquisition by Maersk and Hyundai Merchant Marine, will offer eight weekly departures between Asia and Europe, covering 40 ports. 2M will offer the market six
departures per week between Asia and Northern Europe and two departures per week between Asia and the Mediterranean. The new reinforced services include Algeciras port on two of the routes between northern Europe and Asia, improving transit time, offering a direct service with South Korea and a faster connection with northern China. After the modifications, the first rotation towards the east will be Rotterdam-Felixstowe-Antwerp-Algeciras-Singapore-Yantian-Quingdao. And the second one towards the west: Shanghai-Yantian-Tanjung Pelepas-Algeciras-Antwerp-Le Havre-Felixstowe. The alliance also improves its service between the Mediterranean and Asia, offering fast transit times from France to northern China and improving transit times between Valencia, Barcelona and Shanghai. The new rotation towards the east will be: Gioia Tauro-La Spezia-Genoa-Fos-Barcelona-Valencia-Marsaxlokk-Salalah-Singapore-Shanghai.
