CHEC starts construction of second container terminal in Egypt’s Ain Sokhna

Suez, Egypt (PortSEurope) September 5, 2018 – China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) has officially started the construction of a second container terminal in Egypt’s Ain Sokhna. China’s participation in the Egyptian port construction project will stimulate Egypt’s economic development and further expand the market size and economy of China and Egypt, the deputy president of Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority, Mahfouz Taha, said at the
opening ceremony. The project promotes the “interconnection” between Egypt and the world under the “Belt and Road” initiative, and leads to the employment of thousands of Egyptians. Chinese enterprises adhere to the concept of cooperation in good faith and negotiation, and have won recognition for their efficiency and product quality, Taha said. “The construction of the second container terminal project in Ain Sukhna is a lubricant for China and Egypt to strengthen cooperation and work together for mutual development,” the general manager of China Harbour Engineering Company, Xia Xinrui, said. In March 2018, China Harbour Engineering Company won the tender for the second container terminal of Ain Sukhna, with a contract value of $118 million (€138 million) and execution period of 18 months.
