
Aktau port cargo results for the first seven months of 2020 improve

Aktau, Kazakhstan (PortSEurope) August 31, 2020 – The total cargo handled in the port of Aktau in the first seven months of 2020 was 1.979 million tons, 1% more than in the same period last year (1.977 million tons). Over 122,400 tonnes of goods were transported in containers, which is five times more than last year (24,400 tonnes). More than 1.3 million tons of oil
were transshipped or 5% more than in the same period of 2019 (1.2 million tons). The largest Kazakh port handled grain transshipment of 373,400 tonnes, down 14% (433,900 tonnes). Metal transshipment was 9,500 tonnes against 44,800 tons in the first seven months of 2019 (78% decrease). Transshipment of other cargoes was 281,600 tonnes, or 7% more than the 264,300 tonnes handled in the same period of 2019. The port also processed 1,941 tonnes of ferry cargo, while in 2019 none was transshipped. Port of Aktau is on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea at the intersection of several international transport corridors.
