Genoa, Italy (PortSEurope) May 20, 2019 – The Logistic Association of Sustainable Intermodality (ALIS) is pursuing its goal for zero emissions at ports through a project for the installation of 5 MWh lithium batteries to feed the ships during their stay at the harbours, the president of the association, Guido Grimaldi, has said.
“We will bring zero emissions into port, respecting port communities and keeping cities clean,” Guido Grimaldi asid during the presentation of his report at the “Zero-impact mobility: the future is green” event organised by ALIS.
Wave power is used to recharge the batteries and as of May 2020 the members of the association will receive 12 gigantic lithium-powered hybrid ships capable of guaranteeing zero emissions in ports. The vessels will be able to transport 520 trucks, about twice the capacity of the current hybrid ships used in the Mediterranean,” Grimaldi noted.
