Almería, Spain (PortSEurope) June 16, 2018 – The Andalusian Regional Government plans to tender this summer the basic project for the development of the Almería port of Carboneras, which will involve a future investment of €8.5 million ($9.88 million) in the promotion of various actions for its improvement and expansion, as announced today in the Andalusian Parliament the Minister of Development and Housing, Felipe López, who has highlighted the commitment of the Andalusian Government to the development and future of these facilities in fisheries and nautical-recreational matters.
The counsellor explained that it is waiting to receive the report of the newly created Andalusian Office of Financial Evaluation to support the bidding of this project that takes shape in an area of close to 36,800 m² , raising a new specific use dock for the fishing fleet with capacity for 260 berths of lengths between 6 and 15 metres “.
Lopez, who has appeared today in the parliamentary committee of Development and Housing, has stated that the project provides for the development of an area for compatible uses in the contact between the port and the city, with a surface area of around 5,300 m² where the construction of new buildings is for tertiary activities as well as parkings is under consideration. These actions are completed with the extension of the urban road section to the interior of the port area, favouring the integration between the port and the adjacent urban grid through new articulation spaces and accesses.
Regarding fishing, the councillor affirmed that “the project foresees the construction of two new pontoons for the fleet.
The owner of Development and Housing has stressed that the overall investment of all these actions amounts to €8.5 million ($9.88 million), corresponding €5.1 million to the new recreational dock, the transfer of the technical area and improvements in fishing infrastructure, while that the remaining €3.4 million will go to the development of the area of compatible uses, with €2.8 million dedicated new buildings. This project contemplates the concession of this port infrastructure, which will also suppose a revenue generation formula for the Administration, which will not have to assume any cost for this action.
The councillor has announced that Agencia Pública de Puertos de Andalucía (APPA – Public Ports Agency of Andalusia) is already working on the promotion of an emergency action that will entail an investment of around €600,000, estimated in accordance with similar situations occurred in other ports.
