An event was organized to celebrate the achievement and to review improvements that the port has carried out in recent years to adapt to the needs of vehicle manufacturers. Present were the president of Cantabria, Miguel Angel Revilla ; the president of Autoridad Portuaria de Santander (APS – Port Authority of Santander), Jaime González; and the president of Puertos del Estado, Ornella Chacón.
The executive vice president of Anfac, Mario Armero, said that manufacturers valued the port for its dedication and flexibility, as well as having an ideal location for car exports to the EU.
The models of brands that enter or leave the port are BMW, Ford, Opel, Nissan, Renault, Dacia, Seat, Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Mercedes-Benz,
PSA and Infiniti.
In the next 15 new models will be manufactured in Spain, half of which will be powered by alternative energies, so the next challenge will be to work together to design transport and logistics processes adapt to the new peculiarities of models and markets to enhance the competitiveness of factories and the automotive industry in Spain, Armero pointed out.
