
Durrës port traffic down 9% in first eight months of 2020

Durrës, Albania (PortSEurope) September 21, 2020 – In the first eight months of this year, Durrës port handled 2.5 million tons of goods, down 9% of the same period of 2019. The largest volume of goods was handled in containers, accounting for 40% of the total processed during the, followed by general goods processed in the Western Terminal, in which 547,000 tons of goods were
processed equal to 22% of the total quantity. According to Autoriteti Portual Durres (port authority), 866 vessels were handled – 380 merchant ships and 486 ferries. Compared to the same period a year ago, there is a 9% decrease in goods processed in port quays, as a result of the conditions caused by the Covid-19 coronavirus crisis. 179 transport ships were processed in the Western Terminal, while another 85 in the Eastern Terminal.
