Milan, Italy, November 30, 2018
Edison Spa announces the stipulation with the Norwegian shipowner Knutsen OAS Shipping of a 12-year long-term contract (renewable for another 8) for the charter of a 30,000 m³ LNG vessel. The ship will be built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in the Mipo shipyard in South Korea and will be delivered in the first half of 2021.
The agreement is preparatory to the Small Scale LNG project with which Edison aims to introduce liquefied natural gas into mainland Italy as an alternative fuel for sustainable mobility in heavy and maritime transport. The vessel will supply the 20,000 m³ Small Scale LNG that Edison will realize in the port of Ravenna for the newco Italian GNL Deposits (51% Pir, 49% Edison).
The barge will be able to obtain supplies thanks to the large portfolio of long-term LNG contracts held by Edison .
The ship will be equipped with a high efficiency duel fuel engine, powered by LNG and marine diesel, and will be equipped with a liquefaction unit that allows greater operational flexibility and environmental sustainability.
Edison is part of Electricitè de France (EDF).
