Cairo, Egypt (PortSEurope) August 7, 2019 – Local sources have reported that Hutchison Ports of China has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish a container terminal in Abu Qir port of Alexandria.
the signing took place after a meeting between Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Commander in Chief of the Naval Forces Ahmed Khalid, Group Managing Director of the Chinese company Hutchison Ports Eric Ip, and Executive Director of Hutchinson Ports Clemence Cheng.
Hutchison will train around 1,500 Egyptian engineers and workers to perform the various jobs in the terminal, which is expected to receive one million containers per year.
Hing Kong-based Hutchison Ports operates in 51 ports across 27 countries and handles 11% of the global marine cargo trade.
