Gioia Tauro, Italy (PortSEurope) December 5, 2018 – An Italian court has reinstated 30 of the 377 workers of the port of Gioia Tauro who were fired in July 2017 by terminal operator MCT.
These are the first sentences on a mass of about 280 appeals filed against the dismissal. Many other sentences are expected in the coming days.
MCT will now have to reintegrate the workers, but this will cause the dismissal of as many other employees currently in service. Therefore, the sentence could provoke a series of protests that could also lead to a blockage of port activities.
