Italian police arrests six on alleged corruption at Augusta port

Augusta, Italy (PortSEurope) November 8, 2018 – Italy’s police has arrested six people on suspicion of organising a scheme for the manipulation of tenders for the delivery of infrastructure services by Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mare di Sicilia Orientale (AdSP – Eastern Sicilian Sea Port Authority).

This is the result of an operation, called “Port Utility”, which has unveiled a complex scheme for tender manipulation of the port authority for the infrastructure works.

The six custodial ordinances, issued, at the request of the Public Prosecutor of Syracuse, are against four professionals and two officials of the Augusta port authority, on alleged corruption.

The provision acknowledges the recurrence of various bribery and auction disruption cases as part of tenders with a total budget of €100 million ($114.4 million) called by the port authority.
