
One consortium bids for Port of Livorno dredging contract

Livorno, Italy (PortSEurope) December 7, 2021 – A single bid has been received for the construction of the works at sea and the dredging of the Darsena Europa at the port of Livorno. The offer was from a consortium comprising Società Italiana Dragaggi Spa, Fincantieri Infrastructure , Sales Spa and Fincosit. Authority) sees this as another important step in the development of the port and the dredging works will cost around €393 million ($443 million). The contract includes the protection works of the new port (North) entrance of the port of Livorno, the new port basin of the Darsena Europa with its access channel, the construction of new containment tanks and the dredging activities connected to their functionality. More specifically, the construction of an external breakwater of 4.6 km is envisaged, consisting of the new breakwater pier (North Dam) and the construction of the new Meloria Dam under the breakwater. The old one will be demolished. Internal dams will also be built for 2.3 km, to delimit the new fill tanks (90 hectares) which will be added to the existing ones (70 hectares) and already the subject of a consolidation project. The dredging interventions are aimed at basing of the new works, the deepening of the seabed of the access channel and the construction of the basins and internal docks.
