Varna, Bulgaria (PortSEurope) August 28, 2018 – Marine cluster Bulgaria is to participate in Blue NET – Maritime Clusters Network for Blue Growth project financed by the European Commission (EC) to participate in the definition of a coordinated plan for shared innovations in the maritime sector at a time when the maritime industry is beginning to see positive. The project has been implemented in six
countries – Italy, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Albania, Romania, Croatia – and a common methodology for mapping the specific innovation needs of maritime companies has been drafted. A total of 96 companies contributed to the first project survey representing 145 innovation needs, 28 enterprises were further interviewed and subjected to a technology audit, and 20 companies met and established new contacts at an event to meet innovation needs in July this year in Cyprus. Four common maritime sectors have been identified to develop networks between companies to share ideas for mutually innovative cooperation, although the six participating countries have different maritime traditions. The sectors are: – Shipbuilding and boat construction: design, construction, maintenance and repair, furnishing, installation and equipment – Maritime transport: short sea shipping, passenger ferry services, inland waterway transport, logistics related to water transport – Energy and raw materials: offshore oil and gas extraction, offshore wind energy, renewable ocean energy, carbon dioxide capture and storage, inert materials extraction, marine minerals extraction, fresh water supply – Leisure: coastal tourism, yachting and yacht port services, cruise tourism. Marine cluster Bulgaria invites companies, as well as technical experts and researchers from sectors related to the Blue Economy, to participate in a database of enterprises interested in sharing mutual innovation needs, realisation of international cooperation in the field of innovation and exchange of modern innovation practices. Blue NET general objective is to enhance the SME’s capacity to develop networking among maritime clusters in the Medierranean, in particular in the area from the Adriatic-Ionian Seas to the Black Sea. The aim is to diffuse innovation and achieve an added value in relation to the maritime policy of the target area. Project activities will be implemented in the framework of Integrated Maritime Policy of the European Union and will allow : – Exchange of good practices for cluster management and development of the business sector mainly for the SMEs – Empowering maritime clusters and/or regional centres of competence to go blue-innovative – Enhanced intensive networking among the stakeholders in the involved countries Moreover strong networking among partners will grow during the project and will give rise to a structured process for mutual cluster development.
