Ferrol, Spain (PortSEurope) March 31, 2019 – The new ambassador of Turkey in Spain, Cihad Erginay, has visited the container terminal of the Outer Port of Ferrol. In its tour of the facilities,  he was accompanied by the general manager of the terminal, Diogo Castro; the president of Autoridad Portuaria de Ferrol-San Cibrao (APF – Port Authority of Ferrol), José Manuel Vilariño; the director, Alejandro
Rey; and the head of its Commercial and Development Department, Julio Hernández. The facilities are operated by the Turkish company Yildirim through its port division known as Yilport. This visit is part of the round of contacts that the Turkish diplomat is carrying out after recently taking office as ambassador in Spain. The visit is also an endorsement to what represents the largest investment of a company from Turkey in Galicia. From the beginning of its operations in June 2018 until the end of last year, the container terminal generated a freight traffic of 43,194 tons (4,532 TEUs). Ferrol Container Terminal has a privileged location with its outer harbour. Ferrol offers the deepest container terminal in the Atlantic Coast of Southwest Europe, a quay wall of 1450 metres, 20 metres’ deep draft, and an annual container handling capacity up to 1.5 million TEUs in its 290.000 m² of land area. Yilport Ferrol grants all the conditions to accommodate and serve the biggest ultra large container vessels expected to be built in the upcoming years. The terminal offers intermodal transfer, stuffing and stripping in its warehousing facilities and depot services with its one- stop-shop service. It is the only deep-sea container terminal in the North of Galicia, with several important towns and industrial areas within a radius of 120 km. More than 3 million inhabitants live on its nearby hinterland. Due to proximity to major container maritime routes, Ferrol offers the best location for container transshipment Atlantic operations feeding Spain, Portugal, France, Ireland, and Southern Britain with practically no deviation.
