Suez, Egypt (PortSEurope) December 5, 2018 – Suez Canal Authority has no intentions to increase the transit fees for 2019, in order to keep its competitiveness, the president of the institution, Mohab Mamish, said.
“The transit fees of the Suez Canal have not been lifted since I assumed the management of the authority, in order to keep its service cheaper and safer than any other shipping route,” Mamish said during a meeting with Adel Lamai, Chairman of the Port Said Chamber of Shipping.
In the opinion of Lamai, the Suez Canal currently covers 9% of the world trade and this share can be increased through a reduction of the transit fees.
Lamai expects shipping lines to return to East Port Said after the recent reductions of the fees issued by the Suez Canal Economic Authority.
