Suez, Egypt (PortSEurope) November 26, 2018 – Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone has allocated EGP 200 million ($11.2 million/€9.8 million) to improve the efficiency of the berths in West Port Said as a first stage of its development plan, to be launched by the end of 2018.
The engineering body of the Egyptian armed forces will carry out the development plan that starts at the tourist port, so that it can accommodate three cruise ships simultaneously, and the implementation will take 18 months, Abdelkader Darwish, Vice President of the General Economic Zone of the Suez Canal for the Northern Sector, said.
The Egyptian consulting firm Trust has completed the preparation of the development plan for the tourist port, while the development of Abbas and Sharif berths is currently being presented to the company to prepare the plan for the establishment of dry casting stations in the basin area.
The project also envisages the construction of natural gas supply stations.
