Constanta, Romania (PortSEurope) November 13, 2018 – Swiss grain and fertiliser trader Ameropa AG is to expand the Chimpex grain terminal at Constanta port, increasing capacity bx 65% to 500,000 tonnes of storage capacity.

The terminal was opened in June 2017, and is part of the company’s strategy to increase grain exports from the country.

The new terminal adds 200,000 tonnes to the existing 300,000 tonnes of storage capacity and can load at 1,600 tonnes an hour. The berth is 2.1 kilometers long and can handle up to 10 vessels at a time. Its draft allows for Panamax vessels. It’s part of a Romanian operation that employs some 1,900 people and serves 1,800 fertilizer customers and 2,650 grain origination partners. In 2017, Ameropa bought around 3.1 million tonnes of grain and oilseeds through 19 silo and warehouse locations in Romania.

Ameropa sees Romania becoming a world leader in grain production, with Black Sea exports steadily increasing and the company supplies fertilisers to Romanian farmers.

Founded in 1948, Ameropa is a Swiss, privately owned international agri-business, producing market fertilisers and grains.
