Genoa, Italy (PortSEurope) April 15, 2018 – Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mar Ligure Occidentale (AdSP – Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority) has reported cargo figures for the first two months of 2018.
Container traffic was up 10.6% to 431,595 TEUs, compared to 390,239 TEUs in 2017. Conventional goods increased 5.4%.
Compared to 2016, traffics related to solid bulk are also positive (+ 7.3%) while passenger movements have decreased by 11.6% with 232,201 passengers compared to 262,549 in the same period of 2017.
The decline affected both the cruise sector (the cruise terminal of Savona recorded -37% while Stazione Marittime SpA grew by 4.8%) and the ferries with a decrease of 6%. Ro-Ro traffic recorded an 8% rise with over 2 million tonnes of rolling stock handled compared to 1,870,000 in 2017 (Savona + 9%, Genoa + 7%).
Taking into consideration the 4 port areas of the Western Ligurian Sea System Authority, the evolution of mercantile traffic is: Genoa basin -2%; Prà basin + 19.5%; Savona basin + 1.6%; Vado Ligure + 4.3%.
