Valencia, Spain (PortSEurope) June 22, 2018 – US Secretary of Transportation, Anthony Foxx, has visited to the port of Valencia.

He was accompanied on the June 24, 2018, visit by Chairman of Puertos del Estado, José Llorca, and the chairmen of Adif and Renfe, respectively, Gonzalo Ferre and Julio GómezPomar, together with the central government representative in the Valencian Region, Serafín Castellano, and Rafael Aznar, Chairman of Autoridad Portuaria de Valencia (APV – Valenciaport, Port Authority of Valencia).

The delegation visited the public container terminal, run by Noatum Container Terminal Valencia and watched rail loading operations. The port of Valencia is a reference for port-maritime relations between Spain and the USA, with the Valencian facility handling around 20% of the goods (3.2 million tonnes) and 37.5% of the containers (270,300 TEUs) which went to or came from North America in 2013.

The USA is Spain’s third largest shipping trade partner, behind Italy and Algeria. The almost 17 million tonnes of goods and over 700,000 TEUs handled make the USA one of Spain’s preferential trade partners.
