Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and President of China Xi Jinping, accompanied by their spouses Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotakis and Peng Liyuan, have visited COSCO’s premises in Piraeus port this afternoon.
The two leaders were warmly welcomed to the offices by company workers holding flags of the two countries, as well as by COSCO President Xu Lirong.
Mrs Mitsotakis and Xi attended the speeches delivered by the Minister of Maritime and Island Policy Yiannis Plakiotakis and the President of COSCO Xu Lirong, in which they emphasized the successful cooperation of the two sides and the aim of further enhancing its port.
Then, the two leaders, accompanied by their wives, walked out onto the office balcony overlooking the facilities and the docked ships. The head of COSCO introduced them, among other things, to the two trains on the rail with dozens of containers, at the start of the express line connecting the land by sea, China with Europe.
At the same time, Mr Mitsotakis and Xi had the opportunity to discuss with four Greek employees the subject of their work.
Last week, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited COSCO’s headquarters in Shanghai, China.
Last month. Piraeus Port Authority SA (PPA) announced that the Greek Committee of Planning and Development of Ports (ESAL) approved investments amounting to €611.8 million ($675.12 million), which cover all the business units of the company and will contribute considerably to the development of the local and national economy.
