Belgrade, Serbia (Ports Europe) May 18, 2022 – Work has started on the reconstruction of the inland Port of Novi Sad, said the Minister of Construction, Transport and infrastructure. Tomislav Momirović.

Last November, DP World said it would invest €28 million ($31.3 million) in port of Novi Sad. The port is located on the Danube river, about 90km upstream from the capital Belgrade. An announcement by Serbia’s port governance agency (AUL – Агенција за управљање лукама) said DP World a.d. Novi Sad would invest in port infrastructure and equipment with a focus on technical modernisation.

“In order to further develop the Port of Novi Sad, and in the interest of the overall economy of Serbia, we have established cooperation with one of the largest port operators in the world, DP World, and we will not stop there. We have prepared more than half a billion euros in investments for river infrastructure. We will invest in the development of ports in Bogojevo, Prahovo, Sremska Mitrovica and Belgrade”, said the minister.

The Minister added that the works on the Danube and the reconstruction of the Djerdap 1 shipyard have been completed. Works on the reconstruction of the Djerdap 2 shipyard have also started.

“Transport and logistics have never been more important for the world we live in today. Experience also tells me that it has never been so difficult to preserve old but proven and find new ways of transporting goods and combine that with new ways to ensure that goods reach different markets and customers quickly, efficiently and sustainably. That is why DP World, as the world’s leading company in transport and logistics, is implementing this largest investment in the history of the port of Novi Sad”, said head of DP World Novi Sad, Claudio Negreanu.

DP World has committed to invest €30 million in the development of the Port of Novi Sad. In two years, the first container terminal will be built on this part of the Danube. Also, nine silos with a total capacity of 40,000 m³ will be also built. This will offer the port, for the first time in history, a storage service for the development of the agro-industry.
