Barcelona, Spain (PortSEurope) September 17, 2019 – A delegation from Associació Espanyola de Directius (AED – Spanish Association of Directors), headed by the Secretary General of the organization, Nicolás de Salas, and the area manager of Catalonia, Iolanda Rubio, have visited the port of Barcelona, where they were received by the president, Mercè Conesa, accompanied by Deputy Director General of Economic Financial, Miriam Alaminos; and the Deputy Director General and Corporate Development and member of the AED, Pedro Arellano, among other executives.
The president of the port of Barcelona wanted to take advantage of the visit to highlight the role of the port as the engine of the Catalan economy and the State.
The port of Barcelona represents 1.7% of the GDP of Catalonia (€3.530 million per year) and generates 41,200 jobs, 1.1% of employment in the Catalan territory. Barcelona is the first port of the State in terms of its merchandise (€86.630 million in 2018), 60% of which are for export. Mercè Conesa also explained to the representatives of the AED the role of the port as a promoter of initiatives aimed at the internationalization of Catalan companies, as is the case of port business missions that are organised annually, a trip that this year will be destined to Japan from 8 to 14 November.
The Spanish Association of Directors, founded in 1995, comprises the main directors of the State and supports interests of its members. The entity is present in Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Galicia, Andalucia and the Canary Islands, and has more than 2,000 affiliated members.
