Castellón Port Installs Traffic Lights To Control Truck Traffic, Reduce Pollution

Castellón, Spain (PortSEurope) June 11, 2018 – Castellón port has installed traffic lights in the perimeter road of the north zone of the port with the aim of guaranteeing security and controlling traffic, mostly of trucks.

The investment made by the port amounted to €41,000 ($48,400). The work also seeks to reduce the levels of pollution derived from heavy traffic in the port area.

The initiative is part of the package of environmental protection measures promoted by the Castellón port authority and is a consequence of the modification of the circulation directions in the vials of the Cerámica dock that came into force in December.

The changes were implemented to shorten the routes and improve road safety. In addition, the maximum speed was limited to 30 kilometres per hour to minimise the issue of particles in the atmosphere.

In the near future, wheel washers will be installed in the exit lanes of the Cerámica dock to stop the dragging of particles out of the port, which will be of compulsory use for all trucks.
